Bluewater reverse osmosis

The Bluewater Pro + Spirit and why we love it !

Contents

A very complex problem – The footprint and associated volumes involved for the UK drinking water network are enormous .

Water providers supply nearly 64 million people across the UK every day. Each person uses around 142 litres daily — meaning a typical family of four gets through over 450 litres. Thames Water alone supplies 2.6 billion litres of potable water every single day. Across England and Wales, the total volume processed for consumption runs to tens of billions of litres daily.

Every drop is chemically treated, then sent on a journey through over 400,000 kilometres of infrastructure, much of it Victorian-era metal pipework. Along the way, it picks up what those pipes have accumulated: heavy metals, biofilm, and bacterial contamination from cracked joints and ageing seals.
The treatment introduces its own concern. Chlorine reacts with naturally occurring organic matter to form trihalomethanes — disinfection by-products linked to bladder and colorectal cancers with long-term exposure. And then there are the contaminants treatment does not touch at all: PFAS “forever chemicals” detected in drinking water sources across 17 of England’s 18 water companies, microplastics, pharmaceutical residues — antidepressants, antibiotics, and painkillers found in 91 separate UK water samples. Even with the best will in the world and unlimited finances filtration at this scale is full of limitations !

Public health law are minimum safety net, not a health standard. Regulations define what is legally permissible — a floor, not a ceiling. They are a lagging indicator, written to reflect yesterday’s science. PFAS compounds are only now receiving statutory attention in England and Wales, decades after the risks became apparent. Many variants still aren’t routinely measured.

There is a growing understanding within the UK and the media about the overwhelming complexities and economical constraints for improving drinking water quality at industrial volumes hence there has been significant recent growth in personalised home filtration solutions .

Bottled water volumes continue to grow , but there are similar issues with the oversight and quality dynamics discussed in this blog . Absolute costs , carbon costs plastic bottle pollution ……

for the discerning health conscious homes that want to consolidate their water quality with premium filtration and remineralisation products that are aleraedy the status quo in countries abroad .. The Uk is catching up !

Our process

Here at the thewaterdr we are independent specialists in water filtration who screen across the entire market to selective our favourite products to reccomend , This is a largely unregulated market with many products and aggressive guerrilla marketing full of fanciful claims . If anyone famous is telling you that 1 filter solves all your problems , they are trying to sell you theirs but there is categorically no 1 size fits all unfortunately .

We have a clinical selection process to help with this methodology and wanted to share some of the highlights from a favoured few ….

Reverse Osmosis is widely recognised as the gold standard for home water filtration globally and is becoming a must have solution for securing the highest quality drinking water for homes in the UK , increasing both the quality and of course reducing the plastic footprint and associated impact

That is precisely where the Bluewater Pro Purifier with Kitchen Station enters the conversation.

1. Filtration Quality …

NSF/ANSI 58 certification means the performance claims have been independently verified by a third party

The Gold Seal Trademark from the United States Water Quality Association (WQA)helps connect consumers with water treatment products that have been tested and certified to meet industry standards. WQA’s Gold Seal Product Certification Program ensures that the product is constructed or formulated from safe materials, the claims listed on the packaging are backed by test data, and the product will hold up under normal usage conditions.

The Bluewater Pro is powered by SuperiorOsmosis™ — and the headline figure is unambiguous: up to 99.7% of contaminants removed, including PFAS, microplastics, heavy metals, and dissolved solids. It is up to 10x purer than traditional carbon filters. That is not a marginal improvement. It is a different category of protection entirely.

Here is an overview of their  purification process in stages …

Stage 1 — Sediment Pre-Filter (10 μm carbon fibre): The gatekeeper. It captures the coarse contamination most people never think about — sand and sediment (up to 200 μm), iron oxide rust (up to 100 μm), fine silt and dirt (up to 50 μm) — filtering down to 10 microns. It stops the rough material before the critical stages begin, protecting the membrane and extending system life.

Stage 2 — Activated Carbon Block (filters to 0.5 μm): This is where the taste and chemical problem is solved. Activated carbon absorbs chlorine, volatile organic compounds (VOCs), and pesticides — the agricultural chemicals and disinfectant residues that dominate UK tap water and make it smell and taste the way it does. It eliminates the chemical contaminants that affect quality and flavour, preparing the water for the membrane stage.

Stage 3 — SuperiorOsmosis™ Membrane (filters to 0.0001 μm): The heart of the system. At 0.0001 microns, this membrane removes what no carbon filter can touch: lead and arsenic (heavy metals at 0.0001–0.0002 μm), PFAS forever chemicals (0.0005 μm), microplastic fragments, and pharmaceutical residues. With an 80% recovery rate, it delivers this level of purity while minimising water waste — a combination that most membrane systems do not achieve simultaneously.

Stage 4 — Automatic Membrane Flush (self-cleaning): The stage that makes the Pro genuinely different from every conventional RO system. The self-cleaning mechanism automatically flushes the membrane, maintaining optimal pressure, flow, and purity without manual intervention. No performance degradation. No clogging. No surprises. Year after year, the system performs as it did on day one.
Verdict: Passes. For the UK’s specific contamination profile — PFAS, THMs, heavy metals from ageing pipes, microplastics — this system addresses the full spectrum. This is what remove looks like.

2. Design Quality

This speaks for itself not only does the engineering reflect commercial grade thinking but visually the The Kitchen Station brings the front-of-house refinement — a compact, sleek unit designed to integrate cleanly into both domestic and professional kitchen environments

The spirit purifier is a compact and powerful water purification system 150×365×462 mm  / Pro 225×475×467 mm

Design quality in water purification is easy to undervalue until something goes wrong. A system that fails to maintain pressure, clogs prematurely, or leaks undermines the entire purpose of owning it , the Bluewater products offer smart alert systems on water quality, pressure leakage , filter capacity and replacement .

Minimal maintenance – automated valves, pumps and cleaning

3. Practicality  and Cost Analysis

I am not going to spend too long on the reasons why we recommend taking proprietary control over the water quality in your home as I will assume most people already here recognise the merits . I do think it is worth introducing the costs in context of an investment into the infrastructure for your home which is there for the long term .

The Bluewater Pro achieves up to 70% water recovery — nearly three times better than the industry norm, with substantial savings in running cost and water waste over the system’s operational life. For households spending £40–£100 per month on bottled water, or businesses with water delivery contracts, the long-term economics are compelling.

The Pro eliminates plastic waste entirely — no deliveries, no storage, no per-litre markup.

The Liquid Rock® mineral concentrate extends the value further: one litre of extract produces between 133 and 667 litres of mineralised water depending on intensity setting — economical, precise, and plastic-free.

The Spirit reflects its position as one of the market leaders with a starting price GBP 4000 ( x VAT and x works ) we remain committed to work with each location for bespoke quotes to keep the price to a minimum by understanding your existing set up and the risk of doubling up !

4. Mineral Quality

Another category where the Bluewater series shoots out the lights ! recognising the deep thought that has gone into the system .Reverse osmosis produces exceptionally pure water. It also strips out minerals like calcium and magnesium essential to hydration, electrolyte balance, bone health, and cardiovascular function. Demineralised water is flat, slightly acidic, and less bioavailable. What you restore matters as much as what you removed.

Most re-mineralisation cartridges use synthetic mineral salts with approximate ratios and limited source traceability. We will not recommend a system where the mineralisation quality lags behind the filtration quality.

Liquid Rock® is a scientifically formulated concentrate sourced from untouched Swedish mountain geology — primary rock mineral deposits, not a processing facility. It delivers a precise 2:1 ratio of Calcium to Magnesium, the ratio most closely aligned with the body’s optimal absorption of both minerals. Calcium and magnesium work in tandem; an incorrect ratio compromises uptake of both. Getting this right is biochemistry, not marketing.
It is delivered in liquid form directly through the Bluewater system, ensuring consistent TDS and mineral levels with every use.

The Bluewater app allows adjustment across five intensity settings — Zero, Light, Original, Medium, and Bold — tailoring output precisely for drinking, cooking, coffee, or specialist food preparation.
